da betano casino： Reports in recent days had suggested Manchester United were interested in landing the Inter centre-back, but it now appears the Red Devils will face stiff competition for his signature.

The Daily Mirror claim Spurs have now entered the race to sign the Uruguayan, and that Jose Mourinho initially wanted the defender in his time as Manchester United manager two years ago.

The report adds that Mourinho was “left fuming” when it seemed as though Godin used United’s interest to secure a new contract at Atletico Madrid, but it now appears the Portuguese man is intent on getting his man the second time around.

Make no mistake about it, whilst Godin may no longer be a spring chicken in footballing terms at age 34, he still possesses the raw defensive attributes that make him the perfect fit for a Mourinho team.

Even in the limited game-time he has enjoyed in Serie A this season, he has averaged an impressive 1.5 tackles and 1.8 interceptions per game. This is a man who was at the heart of the Atletico defence that was contending on all fronts over the past decade, including both domestically in Spain and in Europe too.

It was no surprise that Simeone lauded the centre-back’s career at the club just last May, saying: “We love Diego so much. He has given and he is giving a lot to us in every single game he is playing. His career is just remarkable. We are very proud of his captaincy.”

The Uruguayan is a battle-hardened warrior and leader, exactly the kind of defender Mourinho built around at Chelsea with John Terry. Whilst Godin may be at the tail-end of his career, he could come in at Spurs and offer that same kind of authority and presence the former England international had at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Spurs would be foolish to renew this man’s deal.
